Time moves much too fast for This Old Boy to keep up with all the latest trends among today’s youth however I could not help but develop an interest in a subject matter that never crossed my mind until recently.
Grooming.
AI says "Grooming" most commonly refers to a manipulative process used to exploit others, or to the practice of personal hygiene and maintenance.
Referring to Behavioral and Sexual Grooming:
In a social or legal context, grooming is the deliberate act of building a relationship, trust, and emotional connection with a child, teenager, or vulnerable adult to exploit them sexually or financially. It is a gradual process that can occur in person or online.”
This subject matter came to mind recently when I was searching online for information about my Alienated Adult Daughters, one of which is the Mother of a son I believed was “groomed”. As un-hip as I was to what this was all about I quickly got an idea about who was doing the “grooming” and who was being “groomed” and why. My Alienated Adult daughter had an interest in dancing at an early age around seven or eight years old and his Aunt made a video that was posted on YouTube years ago.
Fast forwarding several years this young boy was now making videos produced by a local Dance studio that catered to children and teenagers. The videos were quite impressive in so far as production and quality and although I had never spoke to this young boy he appeared to be talented performer on camera. The video his aunt posted on YouTube showed a supportive family encouraging him to perform and so it was no surprise that somehow he became a student on the Dance group.
It took a few months and several additional videos of this young boy dancing with the Dance Group at various venues frequently for me to gain a greater scope of how much dancing and performing had become the focal point of his young life. Like his older brother who was consumed and equally successful in his chosen field football. Regardless of the fact that I had not talked to the Alienated Adult daughter of mine about her sons to any serious degree I image her as being extremely supportive and encouraging of both in their personal endeavors.
I must admit that at the time I was coming to understand this child’s life I was just becoming familiar with Social Media, Facebook, Instagram etc., and he was on a fast track that I was just warming up to. I was impressed with the superb photography and self promotions these kids were using online and the confidence that they exuded but in the back of my mind was this thought “Are these kids being supervised by parents” or simply dropped off at the studio with blessings and no questions asked?. No eyes wide open?.
I kept telling myself not to “act my age” and be judgmental, and to remember how wild and crazy I was in my younger years my teenage terror years. Still, something was stirring in observations and one day I realized that this young boy had some very feminine characteristics in so far as body movements along with wearing scarves and ear rings. I could not stop the thoughts and questions regardless of how fair and understanding I should be to be politically correct.
Then I noticed that one person was appearing more frequently than others and appeared to be a tutor or mentor of some sort for this young boy now a young adult, and together they were hosting classes at the Dance Studio as a team. They performed as a Duo and traveled together offering classes to kids and teenagers while there was no doubt this was two people working together to create a business within the Dance Industry but something was not right.
As I read the advertisements online and realized there were thousands of kids across America mesmerized with this Free Style Hip Hop dance craze I also became uncomfortable with some of the phrases being used and marketing videos.
My Alienated Adult daughter’s son was becoming more mysterious day by day. I wondered about the effects of not knowing her biological Father and her son being raised in a Fatherless home could have had on perspectives and outlooks of himself , men, women and sexuality.
Behind the scenes and photographs of kids having fun at a safe and adult supervised parentless party house was a video production company where it was obvious that these kids wanted to be more than just kids trying to have a little fun.
Back at the Dance Studio My Alienated Adult son and his “partner” were advertising classes for beginner’s, teens and young women that taught femininity.
What? These two guys are teaching girls, teenagers, young men and women how to be feminine? And offering Private Instructions?
I know. I am not supposed to act my age.
